Could you define persistence?

Oct 14, 2019

The following is from an interview I had with Brawn Lide.  You can watch the video of this interview HERE.

In this interview highly influential business leader Brawn Lide answers that question and I have to tell you, I have created a lot of content around persistence and Brawn’s definition is far superior to anything I have read or created myself.

Drew:  We are talking about persistence today. I have a wonderful guest with me, his name is Brawn Lide. He is a coach, speaker, and trainer. He has a wildly successful business in Ardmore, Oklahoma, and if you live in that town, I’m sure you know him. So let me get right to the question that you all are asking and it's this:  Could you define persistence for me and share who modeled persistence for you in your life?

Brawn: Defining persistence is very hard. When you asked me this question, just in reflection on persistence, I realized I had a lot of people that modeled things that most people believe are...

How to develop persistence

Oct 07, 2019

How do you develop persistence and why is it important?  In this blog, I will give you an 8-step process used by some of the most influential people throughout history to develop persistence.

“...we all know, if one does not possess PERSISTENCE, one does not achieve noteworthy success in any calling.”– Napoleon Hill

If you are like most people you recognize that you will not achieve anything of consequence without developing your ability to persist through challenging circumstances.  This is not only common knowledge; it is also backed by research.

Persistence:  You may have heard of the “10,000-hour rule” that was made popular by Malcolm Gladwell’s book “Outliers.”  The idea is that if you put 10,000 hours of practice into something you can become an expert. That would be an example of persistence!  Some in the scientific community have debunked this idea, citing that even if someone...

Sep 30, 2019

Is it possible to build your self-esteem and confidence? In this post I am going to give you a great hack on how you can quickly elevate your confidence. I am also going to share three steps to build your self-esteem.

A study done by Florida State University and Brown University found that, “High self-esteem makes people more willing to speak up in groups and to criticize the group's approach. Leadership does not stem directly from self-esteem, but self-esteem may have indirect effects.”  What this means is if you have something to say, something to sell or something big to do, you need to increase your influence. One of the key factors to increasing your influence is having greater confidence in yourself, which is also called self-esteem.

Let me address confidence first and share a confidence hack, then we will look at the deeper issue of self-esteem.

A great quote by General George Patton is, “You fight like you train.” If you want to...

Sep 09, 2019

Why is trustworthiness so important?  In this blog I am going to answer that question, give you an awesome example of this quality, and give you three tips on how you can be more trustworthy.

What do the influencers of the influencers do?

Harvard Business Review had an article by Ron Carucci that shared the findings of a 10-year study of the best of the best executives and they found that, “Every organization has executives everyone wants to work for. These executives form deep connections with superiors, peers, and direct reports, studying and meeting the needs of key stakeholders. They communicate in compelling ways and reach beyond superficial transactions to form mutually beneficial, trusting relationships. Their legacy becomes a positive reputation within the organization for consistently delivering results while genuinely caring for those who deliver them.”

Trustworthiness is important if you want to be influential.

This skill inspires markedly higher confidence and focus among those they lead.”

How do you define influence in real terms?  In this blog I am going to define influence for you and give you 3 quick tips on how you can increase your influence.

Tim Elmore is a very influential person.  He and his company, Growing Leaders, have trained the athletic departments for Alabama’s Crimson Tide, and Missouri’s Kansas City Royals. I was privileged to hear him speak when he was training the athletic department heads at Pepperdine University.  I was also fortunate enough to grab coffee with him afterwards and he has been known for saying this about influence:  “For years I’ve reminded people that sociologists tell us even the most introverted of people will influence 10,000 others in an average lifetime.”

Think about it, you will influence at least 10,000 people in your lifetime. That is only about one person every other day.  If you are like...
